Information on Spring 2025 Semester
February 17, 2025
Dear Students,
Spring 2025 courses will start on February 17, 2025. Course enrollments are currently ongoing and the course add-drop period will continue through KUSIS until Friday, February 28th. The deadline for course withdrawals (with a W grade) is May 2, 2025, which is also available in the academic calendar. The deadline for audit requests is also at the end of the add-drop period, on Friday, February 28th. Students are expected to strictly comply with these deadlines.
The primary method of teaching for Spring 2025 is face-to-face. However, there will be a limited number of courses to be offered online only. The method of teaching for each course is available in KUSIS under “Class Search” / “Instruction Mode”. Class attendance regulations will be applied as stated in the course syllabi.
Examinations (midterm(s) and final) for face-to-face and online courses are to be held face-to-face on campus. Faculty members may also consider using other assessments including take-home assignments, online quizzes, online assignments, online discussions, reports, presentations, etc. to assess student learning. If these evaluation tools are to be used, the syllabus should clearly state their weights in grading.
Below are important information and reminders about the Spring 2025 semester:
- Class Attendance Requirement:
As class attendance is compulsory in formal education programs, students must meet the attendance requirement. In accordance with YÖK’s announcement titled The Fundamental Principles of Article 44/b of Law No. 2547 dated February 19, 2024, starting from the Fall 2024 semester, students who cannot meet the attendance requirements specified in the course syllabus will fail the course due to absenteeism. Students who fail due to absenteeism will not be able to participate in the end-of-semester evaluation, such as the final, if there is one. This rule will not apply to courses with no attendance requirements specified in the course syllabus. Attendance requirements, if available, must be included in the course syllabus at the beginning of the semester.
- Remedial exam rules and regulations are available here.
- Course overload are available here.
- Information about payments/refunds to be made according to the application time and reason for a leave of absence is available here. Starting from the Spring 2024 semester, students can take a LoA for a maximum of two semesters in a row at a time and a maximum of four semesters during their education period, except for leave of absences due to health and force majeure reasons.
- For undergraduate students, rules regarding the total number of courses that can be withdrawn (W: withdraw) which was determined as six courses and the minimum number of credits that students are expected to enroll per semester are available here.
- Starting from the Fall 2025 semester, the number of core program courses that undergraduate students can take is limited to a maximum of 8 courses. There will be no limit on the number of core program courses in Spring 2025 semester.
Students whose successfully completed core program course count is 8 or more, regardless of whether the relevant courses are included in the GPA, will not be allowed to enroll in additional core program courses, starting from the Fall 2025 semester course enrollments. If there are students missing core courses within the requirements of their curriculum despite having successfully completed 8 or more core program courses, they can apply to the University Executive Council with a petition before the Fall 2025 course enrollment period. The rule will apply to all current and new students. Core program courses include ASIU, ECSA, EQUR, ETHC, HUMS, SCIE, SOSC courses in the major and double major curricula, if any, for which the student is responsible.
